Raison d'être

Ideas Academy is an organization transitioning from a charity to a non-profit social enterprise. Our objective is to become a self-sustainable provider of high-quality education, free for refugees and competitively priced for others.

Our environment fosters compassionate, innovative, inclusive and global thinking individuals that believe in our mission: to unlock human potential when it matters most, because we want to give everyone a fair chance in life to make a difference.

Background

Ideas Academy was set up as a joint venture between IDEAS and Young Refugee Cause: a non-profit secondary academy catering to the refugee and underprivileged communities.

In 2014 what began as a single class of 24 students hosted within another school, has since become an international oriented “Alternative Learning Center” with more than 140 students from over 28 countries. The Academy is now housed in a 5-story building with multiple classrooms for a maximum capacity of 300 students and equipped with an ICT room, a science lab, a library, and a multi-purpose canteen. A dedicated team of full-time experienced educators form the backbone of the Academy. The curriculum followed is the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, coding classes and iTrain certification.

In short, at Ideas Academy, all students have a genuine chance to leave with internationally recognised IGCSE certification and coding skills.

Many students have already advanced their studies or started their careers, of which the majority in the IT sector.

With the pandemic, Ideas Academy has adapted its structure, facilities and methodologies to accommodate the need and trend of digitalised learning. We have equipped all our classrooms with the IT hardware and software necessary to offer online and physical learning simultaneously.

All our teachers are Google Educators certified and operate online learning through the various Google applications.

Teacher conducting a lesson following the IGCSE syllabus on Google Classroom for students across three platforms: Combined Physical and Online Homeschooling, Online Homeschooling, and Online Self-Study.

Your support can make a real difference and give someone a chance to make a difference in life.

We invite you to get involved and become a long-term partner, or perhaps sponsor one or more students. The annual cost of a student is 4,800 MYR per year or 400 per month which also covers their final exam fees.

Why regular gifts make a big difference?

Having guaranteed income from our generous monthly givers means we are able to plan for long-term solutions and invest in sustainable educational initiatives. This means we are able to look not just at reactive work to support the students we have now but also develop effective, self-sustainable and impactful support for vulnerable young people. This could be providing psychosocial support for students who have been affected by conflict, or building new classrooms to attend to more children or start evening classes for parents and other community members.

Any amount donated makes a difference; so do not hesitate to donate. Any amount has an impact:

100 MYR gives a sports & school uniform to a student; Uniforms matter because it makes a student feel that they belong. 200 MYR can buy us 50 lunches for students who often only get 1 meal a day. 400 MYR covers the costs for a full month for a student. 600 MYR buys a student a tablet so they can also follow classes from home. 4,800 MYR per year (or 400 MYR per month) sponsors all the costs of a student throughout the year

We use your gift wisely.

0% of the collected funds are spent on non-educational related activities.

Board directors and advisers do not receive a remuneration.
